Maria Tzanis

ABOUT MARIA TZANIS

Born in Greece, Maria emigrated to Canada as a child. Early on she discovered her natural ability and love for art and has always enjoyed this visual form of communication and self expression. She is a spontaneous, imaginative artist and is self taught.

Her art, like her poetry, is different, exciting and revealing: inspired by an intuitive and emotional response to personal life experiences. Sometimes subtle, at times raw and bold, the messages she sends are visually expressive and compelling. Her line charcoal drawings have been featured in Canadian feminist journals such as Canadian Woman Studies, in support of women’s struggles.

Her interest in human nature led to a degree in the social sciences from the University of Toronto. She is a creative spirit who at a very young age was drawn to the mystic. She believes that the love within us and the love within the creative process has the power to heal and transform us.

Maria’s Song, her first book which she self-published, is based on lived experience.  A survivor of past trauma, an artist, poet and storyteller, Maria’s own dark night of the soul, took her on an inner spiritual journey back to her own divinity.
